Choose the travel-money question first

Use conversion for a reference comparison, fee calculators for a known bank or card schedule, and destination tools for accessible daily spending. Do not add several tool totals together without checking for overlap.

Reference rates are not checkout rates

A reference rate helps compare currencies on the same planning basis. A final card, ATM, bank transfer or cash-exchange result can include a network rate, issuer markup, fixed fee, ATM owner charge, weekend spread or merchant conversion. Keep the tool result and the provider quote separate.

For a multi-country trip, record the currency of each cost instead of assuming every European or regional destination uses the same currency. Keep one backup payment method and a small emergency reserve appropriate to the route.

Sources and verification

Verify final prices, fees, schedules, entry rules, payment acceptance and booking terms with the provider that will supply the service.

Common questions

Are these bank or card transaction rates?

No. Conversions use a recent reference rate for planning. Banks, card networks, ATMs and cash services can apply different rates, spreads and fees.

What happens if the rate service is unavailable?

The original-currency calculation remains visible. A cached reference rate may be used when available, but the site does not invent a replacement rate.

Should I accept dynamic currency conversion?

Compare the offered home-currency total with local-currency billing and your issuer terms. DCC can include a provider spread, so do not accept it without checking the displayed rate and fees.
